Cannabidiol: An Antibiotic Promising Compound The researchers imitated a 2 week patient care in laboratory models to assess the compound's antibiotic abilities. They observed that Cannabidiol (CBD) is especially effective at breaking down biofilms (slimy accumulations of bacteria) from these models, improving their odds of survival against current antibiotic therapies. CBD can suppress drug-resistant bacteria, comprising those causing infections such as gonorrhoea, meningitis and legionnaire disease, as an active nonpsychotic compound present in cannabis. Certain forms of Gram-negative bacteria have been shown to be destroyed by CBD for the first time. This bacteria have an external outer membrane, an additional line of protection that makes it more difficult to penetrate antibiotics.
